Under my coordination, I received a $500 GripTape Challenge grant to coordinate a healthcare fair in collaboration with the City of Pomona, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Hope for Home Homeless Shelter, Volunteers of America, and a team of youth volunteers. This event, which provided blood pressure and blood glucose screenings and had 350+ care package donations, which we handed out, directly benefited over 200 homeless individuals.

Additionally, I have worked on public health initiatives with other Harvard-based programs. At CoVisualize, a Harvard-affiliated data and population science research group, I co-launched the website Tangible, which aims to make health science literature accessible and understandable to the lay public. We have amassed 800+ views and published 19 articles. I co-led the website’s volunteer site at Harvard’s Global Day of Service.

I also worked on a partnership with Columbia University’s YES in THE HEIGHTS, a research internship for underrepresented students, to increase research accessibility for 200+ underrepresented students. We developed a data science curriculum for these students matriculating into CoVisualize to engage these students in research and empower them to launch full-fledged research projects. The data science curriculum is also for our partnership with LEARN Afghan to provide free education to underprivileged girls in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, in my community, I have had the pleasure of assisting Arab refugee and immigrant families, enhancing their transition into American society. As a first-generation Syrian-American, these experiences have been a source of mutual learning and enriched my understanding of diverse perspectives.
